The Mexican Presidential Elections and some local elections are going to be held on Sunday July 1st (day after the conference). If you are planning to travel to southern parts of Mexico (Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas, Tabasco, Morelos) we advise to do it before the conference especially if you are planning on traveling by car.

The Electoral Commission recommends that local authorities impose a restriction on alcohol sales the day of the election and the day before the election (Saturday June 30th, and Sunday July 1st). If you plan on purchasing tequila or mezcal to take back home please plan on making your purchase accordingly. In past elections the local government in Mexico City has imposed restriction on alcohol sales at liquor stores, bars, and nightclubs, but has allowed restaurants to sell alcohol when ordered along with meals. We do not know what restrictions will be imposed this year and we advise to make dinner plans accordingly (Mexico City has world class restaurants that some participants may want to visit).
