From the method of lines to Deep learning techniques. Solving Reaction-Diffusion equations

Reaction-Diffusion systems arise in diverse areas of science and engineering. The most practical way of solving them is by numerical methods. The most popular methods belong to a class named method of lines. Within this class, they are finite differences, pseudospectral methods, finite element methods, and others. Another class of methods is based on neural network techniques. In the present talk, we discuss advances and issues that arise in both approaches. Particularly, the issue of long-time integrations and implementation of boundary conditions for irregular geometries.  We present some of the advances with examples.
