Our institute is pleased to announce that the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at the American University Washington College of Law has entered into an agreement with ITAM to offer a dual master’s degree for students at both AUWCL and ITAM. The goals are to offer new study-abroad opportunities for AUWCL and ITAM students and to establish links of cooperation between both universities.

The launching of AUWCL’s LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law along with its Spanish equivalent, LL.M. en Derechos Humanos y Derecho Humanitario, has opened doors to opportunities of great value for practitioners, human rights activists, and legal professionals seeking to receive formal training without giving up their current professional duties.

This partnership between AUWCL and ITAM aims to establish a relationship that will benefit both institutions through the development of this dual degree. Students enrolled at ITAM in the Master’s Program in Human Rights and Fundamental Principles and AUWCL students enrolled in the LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and the LL.M. en Derechos Humanos y Derecho Humanitario have the advantage of studying abroad by enrolling in this dual LL.M. Students will benefit from the curriculums of both programs, and when completed, they will receive an LL.M. degree from both institutions.

“This dual degree has as a goal to earn the recognition of international human rights law, a field within which multicultural and multilingual advocates, lawyers, and government representatives debate and incorporate the new standards of dignity that are expected from every state that is a part of the international community,” said Diego Rodriguez-Pinzón and Claudia Martin, co-directors of the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

Gabriela Rodriguez, director of ITAM’s Master’s Program in Human Rights and Fundamental Principles, said “this is a great opportunity for the students at ITAM and AUWCL. It is proof of the relationship of cooperation that has been created between ITAM and AUWCL, which will certainly provide its participants with an international perspective.”
