The ITAM community congratulates Guillermo I. García Alcocer, who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from ITAM, upon his appointment as president of the Energy Regulatory Commission. The commission is a regulatory body overseeing energy matters that promotes the development of a competitive and sustainable energy market for the benefit of society.

García Alcocer has far ranging experience in the energy sector. He took part in the technical team for the energy reform of 2008 and led the group that formulated the constitutional reform on oil and gas that was approved in December of 2013. In 2014 he was among the three nominees chosen by Mexico’s president to serve as president of the National Hydrocarbons Commission from 2014 to 2019.
