ITAM’s Mobile Devices Laboratory student team becomes semifinalist in Apps Telefónica Award

Congratulations to the students who make up ITAM’s Mobile Devices Laboratory team for being chosen as a semifinalist in the Apps Award contest organized by the Telefónica Foundation. Team members are Daniel Gaviño Uriarte, industrial engineering; Miguel Ángel Casillas Maldonado, computer engineering; Cassandra Pratt Romero, computer engineering; Álvaro Casillas Maldonado, computer and industrial engineering, and Pablo Alejandro López Quiles, telecommunications and computer engineering.

The students were chosen for their application, titled PrehispanicApp, which is an educational application aimed at students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades and which serves as an aid in history courses. The application uses a series of minigames to foster learning about the outstanding cultures of Mesoamerica in the pre-Hispanic period.

The Apps Award seeks to encourage innovation and the creative use of open-source technology in the area of non-formal education and to help young people acquire technological, creative and teaching skills for the 21st century and boost their career opportunities in the area of digital culture.
Award results will be published on Nov. 6 and the awards ceremony will be held on March 12.
