Welcome message from Dr. Arturo Fernández, president of ITAM

Orientation Day at ITAM is an event that takes place every semester to welcome the new students in the bachelor and engineering programs. The welcoming ceremony was held on August 3, in the gym of the Rio Hondo campus.

ITAM President Dr. Arturo Fernández opened the event, congratulating the new members of the ITAM community and encouraging them to devote every effort to this new phase – to dedicate all their talent, commitment and heart to their studies starting on the first day. In addition, he advised them to be analytical and to keep in mind that there are no shortcuts to success; “the only way is to work hard and to persevere,” he said. He concluded by urging the students to prepare themselves, starting now, to undertake graduate studies in the best universities in the world or to perform in the best positions in the workplace. “Dream with your feet on the ground and, above all, with unswerving determination.”

ITAM Provost Dr. Alejandro Hernández also offered advice to the students, stressing  the importance of getting close to their teachers, program directors, department heads and university officials to address any problems and solve them together. He also encouraged them to devote equal effort to each of their courses, as they are all part of the comprehensive education offered by ITAM. He talked about the importance of international education at the present time and of the opportunities that are available at ITAM to provide that internationalization. Finally, he welcomed the generation that will start with the new Writing Program.

Leaders and administrative staff from different areas of ITAM outlined the services that are available to enrich and make student life easier.

Later, students within the same study programs assembled and met with the study program directors, and, lastly, a gathering was held in the Plaza Palmeras where different student clubs and organizations presented their plans to our new university students.
