Congratulations to José Luis Funes Izaguirre, who completed ITAM’s certification courses on Judicial Aspects of Foreign Commerce and on Environmental Law, for his appointment as a delegate in the state of Quintana Roo for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT).

Since 2013 Funes Izaguirre served as undersecretary of environmental policy at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the State Government (SEMA). He has been a senior program advisor on matters such as comprehensive management of solid waste, mangrove conservation, and the development of local ecological regulations and regional environmental rules.

Internationally, he held a post within the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation and was named international liaison for the National Association of State Environmental Authorities (ANAEE).

Funes Izaguirre has a bachelor’s degree in law from Iberoamericana University, and he holds a master’s in environmental law from University of the Basque Country.
