ITAM Rio Hondo Campus meets legal guidelines required to be a certified Green Business, according to an announcement made by the PROLEBEN engineering and environmental projects company.

ITAM began the certification process in August of 2014 through PROLEBEN, which developed the document titled, “Strategy to Achieve an Improvement in Sustainable Environmental Performance” (ELDA), whose recommendations for improving the environmental performance of the institute have been fully met by our university during the past year.

Among the factors that were weighted were the creation of an area as a temporary storage facility for hazardous waste and the installation of two solar water heaters that comply with the required sustainability criteria. These heaters reduce the consumption of  LP gas. Also considered were the encouragement in the use of alternative transportation by offering enough space to park 50 bicycles and a school transportation system that offers trips to the nearest subway stations.

Given the aforementioned, PROLEBEN stated on July 7, 2015, that ITAM met the legal guidelines that are required by Mexico City’s Auditing Program for Environmental Sustainability in order to be certified as a Green Business
