Below, you will find a summary of the research:
MABE was a Mexican billionaire family business that manufactured stoves and refrigerators. In 1987, GE acquired 48 % of the business. Due to both infusion of capital and knowledge, MABE became a market leader in Mexico and began its expansion to other Latin American countries. MABE acquired GE factories in markets such as Canada and Brazil. In 2008, MABE already had factories in all the key markets of the Americas. Due to the financial crisis, GE considered selling its appliance business worldwide and MABE was one of the main bidders. In the end, the GE board   decided not to sell the business. Since economies of scale are one of the keys to success for appliance manufacturers, and most of the global players had multi-regional operations in operation, MABE decided to expand into Russia in 2008 through a partnership with Spain FAGOR. MABE’s Vice President of International Sales became concerned in 2012 because he did not understanding why entering the Russian market proved to be more problematic than expected. The labor turnover was high and executive talent was low. To make matters worse, the financial crisis of 2009 had created a global excess supply capacity thus causing prices and profitability in the Russian market to fall.
Other winners included ESADE Business School, ESCA School of Management, IBS Hyberabad, IE Business School, IMD, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Indiana University, Indian School of Business, INSEAD, Lagos Business School, SDA Bocconi, and Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management.
